Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is yet to confirm the participation of any foreign players for its inaugural IPL-style T20 tournament starting in August.
SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga told journalist that the cricket board was desperate for India's participation in the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL), while confirming that no deal between the two boards had yet been struck confirming Indian players' participation.
"We hope and pray that India will participate," Ranatunga told reporters on Monday at a press conference announcing the launch of the tournament.
The tournament was called off last year after India refused to allow it's players to participate. Without Indian players the SLPL will not be as lucrative, as television rights minus India's large television audience is less attractive to advertisers.
However, Upali Dharmadasa, the president of SLC, told BBC Sinhala in February that SLC had ironed out all issues with the Indian cricket board. But several months since that statement, SLC has been unable to secure the participation of the Indians.
