Carlton Sports Club together with the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union has organised the third Carlton Super Sevens rugby tournament which will take place over two weeks, with the participation of international players and coaches.
The tournament will be held over two legs – the first in Kandy on the 29th and 30th of October and the second in Colombo on the 5th and 6th of November – with 10 teams consisting of international, local and junior players vying for the title.
Whereas the previous two tournaments showcased international teams, this year’s tournament will see international players being included into local teams, much like the Indian Premier League cricket tournament.
Elephant House, Samsung Mobiles & Keells under John Keells Holdings Group have come forward as the Platinum Sponsor with Etisalat coming forward as the Official Telecommunication Partner.
The ten teams and their captains are as follows: Yoshitha Rajapakse (Jaffna Challengers), Dushantha Lewke (Western Warriors), Chanaka Chandimal (North Western Blacks), Lasintha de Costa (Eastern Eagles), Saliya Handapangoda (Sabaragamuwa Stallions), Kosala Thisera (Uva Vipers), Thanujaya Seneviratne (North Central Typhoons), Amjad Buksh (Southern Sharks), Fazil Marija (Central Kings) and Sanjeewa Jayasinghe (Northern Gladiators).
International coaches include former American coach Al Caravelli, former Welsh national coach Paul John, Chris Roche a former Australian player and coach, national sevens coach of Fiji Iliesa Tanivula, Pedro Fernandes the national coach of Portugal and Scott Pierce. source-http://sports.dailymirror.lk
