Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development participated as chief
guest at the Foundation Stone Laying ceremony to Shangri-La luxury hotel complex in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 24th February 2012.
Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, one of the world's most
respected hotel companies, currently owns and/or manages 72 hotels under
the Shangri-La and Traders brands, with a rooms inventory of over
30,000. Over almost four decades the group has established its brand
hallmark of 'hospitality from the heart'. The group has a substantial
development pipeline with projects in Austria, Canada, mainland China,
India, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Mongolia,Russia,Qatar,Sri
Lanka,Turkey,and UnitedKingdom.
Shangri-La Asia Limited will invest 408 US$ million on this hotel
project. The star class hotel will have 661 rooms, 30 storied and the
construction work is to be completed in 2015.
Shangri-La is also planning to construct it's second hotel in Hambantota to open in 2013, on approximately 115 acres of land with a 315 rooms with a investment of 120 US$ million.
